Join Karen Scalia of Salem Food Tours and learn about Victorian era holiday meals, Charles Dickens and his love of food, and more! Stroll down beautiful Hawthorne Boulevard to Pickering Wharf, enjoying a sweet treat, spice tasting, and a warm holiday beverage. On Friday December 2nd, meet in front of the Hawthorne Hotel, 18 Washington Square West. Two departure times of 6 pm and 7 pm. Ending will be at Salem Spice.

Wine Tastings

Head over to Salem Wine Imports to relax with a taste of some great holiday wines and to start your holiday shopping. The tastings are free with your program book and take place on Friday, December 2 and Saturday, December 3 from 4–8 pm and on Sunday, December 4 from 1–5 pm.

Walking Tours

Hannah Diozzi, owner of Salem Strolls, is a 14-year resident of Salem, with a 20-year background in leading walking tours in Boston and surrounding communities. As a volunteer docent for Boston by Foot, Hannah specialized in tours of Colonial Boston, the federal architecture of Beacon Hill, and the elegant eclecticism of the Back Bay. She wrote and developed tours of historic Salem, Medford, and Boston’s South End for that organization’s continuing education program. The tour will highlight the development of the common from the 17th century grazing area to one of Salem’s most architectural significant neighborhoods. Join Hannah for this tour on Saturday, December 3 at 10 am. Tour departs from tour headquarters, the Hawthorn Hotel, 18 Washington Square W.


Join Salem’s “official historian” Jim McAllister of Derby Square Tours for his lecture, “The Uncommon Common”, and learn fascinating facts and stories related to the Salem Common Neighborhood. This lecture will be held at St Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salem, 24 St Peter Street, on Sunday, December 4 at 1 pm.

Salem Garden Club Boutique

Visit the Salem Garden Club boutique on Saturday, December 3 from 10 am–4 pm at tour headquarters, the Hawthorne Hotel, downstairs in Library, at 18 Washington Square W., to purchase to purchase uniquely decorated natural wreaths, sprays, arrangements and much more at tour headquarters. Please note: the boutique will only run on Saturday of Christmas in Salem weekend this season, NOT Sunday.
